Savvy Twitter Practices

In what seems like the the blink of an eye Twitter has come from out of nowhere, establishing itself as a major channel of interactive communication in the online and mobile world. Movie Stars, athletes, government officials and well known people from @AlGore to @AndyDick to @FredDurst to @RussellBrand and beyond, are all mad about Twitter.

However, Twitter is much more incredible than that. In fact, Twitter is a local phenomena too. More likely than not, your town municipal government is on Twitter, your local TV and radio news, your local fire fighters, your favorite bookstore, your community college, even the guy that cut your hair recently. If they aren't on Twitter now, they'll likely be on soon.

But there's another force making its claims on Twitter. It's an undercurrent of a more serious nature where businesses and entrepreneurs are successfully tapping the profitable potential of Twitter. When you see well-known companies like: @DIRECTV, @TheHomeDepot or @knitrider begin lining up on the Twitter bandwagon, it's unmistakably time to pay close attention.

Perhaps this "business phenomena" boils down to the commonly known fact that a significant amount of business actually occurs in social gatherings, at cocktail parties, on the golf course, or at various other social events. Now, through Twitter it's become possible, if not down right easy, to benefit from an online version of a non-stop cocktail party of unending proportions.

The statistics and stories are incredible:

  • "Take note of Twitter's power to quickly reach targeted consumers." said publisher O'Reilly ~Los Angeles Times
  • "Global Twestival used Twitter to raise over $250,000 as of February 2009 providing clean water for just over 17,000 people in Ethiopia, Uganda and India"
  • "The TOP two "social media" topics marketers were most interested in learning more about: Social Bookmarking (58%) and Twitter (57%)"
  • "The average unique visitor went to Twitter.com 14 times during the month and spent an average of seven minutes on the site."

What's the meaning of all this? It means that if you are an entrepreneur or own a business, you must not hesitate to head over to Twitter and set up your own Twitter account.

Easy enough?

Well, not exactly. Once you have your account opened, that's when the simplicity goes out the window. It's a very very simple concept, but like playing poker, unless you have a clear strategy, you're going to soon be scratching your head.

The good news is there's help. Internet strategist and social media marketing expert Dan Hollings has spent over 12 months researching and testing Twitter strategies for business. Along the way, Dan wrote 100 of the most popular Twitter tips found anywhere online. Next he created a browser toolbar for Mac or PC that places over 230 Twitter tools, tips and apps within one-click of your Twitter activities. Recently, he released his powerful Twitter training program called, "Twitter Twenius" (that's Twitter-talk for genius).

Here is an interesting Twitter tip, to from the hundreds Dan has originated:

"You need a low key "Twitter Convincer" web page to LINK TO as part of your Twitter page Bio. Most likely your website or blog home page is NOT the best choice. And for sure, your "get rich quick for only $19.95 page" can be saved for relatives, your "ex", or former jail mates."

It goes without saying that there's significantly more to learn, however if you're looking for the ultimate in Twitter money-making strategies or a way to rev-up the Twitter afterburners within all your marketing campaigns whether in your home town or around the world, I highly recommend Twitter Twenius.
